Definition of a POLL
.Dear Cousins,
In reading today's mail I found a couple of things to respond to.
Re: Poll Tax:My trusty, rusty world book says that the poll tax comes from
the English word poll, which means head.  It is also referred to as a head
tax.  In the past a person who did not pay the tax could not vote.
Amendment 24 to U.S. Constitution made it illegal for a state to use payment
of taxes as a voting requirement in national elections.  In 1966 they were
also declared unconstitutional for use in state and local elections.
